This quartet is good for the intermediate to advanced high school or younger college quartet (depending on available rehearsal time and skill level of the players) looking to use pitched percussion instruments. There are two parts using keyboard instruments and two that use non-pitched percussion (bongos, brake drums, etc.). With these mixed timbres and the “quirky” pitch material, the effect on hearing is much like listening to the workings of a large clock or a machine—albeit a slightly evil one.
