This piece was performed during the "FOCUS DAY" at PASIC 2004
(At this point it is helpful to read the description for the [First] Vibraphone Sonata.) The Second Vibraphone Sonata makes use of similar compositional techniques to that of the First Vibraphone Sonata, but where the FVS is more linear, the Second Vibraphone Sonata has a more vertical, chordal nature. Like the First Vibraphone Sonata, though, the Second Vibraphone Sonata still allows the performer to explore the inherent performance variations possible due to the ringing nature of the vibraphone. Where the FVS requires careful musical taste regarding primarily pedal dampening, the SVS requires the same regarding various mallet, body, and hand dampening techniques as well. Like the First Vibraphone Sonata, it is a beautiful piece, especially in very resonant performance venues.
Total playing time is about 4—6 minutes
