This quartet is good for the intermediate to advanced high school or younger college quartet (depending on available rehearsal time and skill level of the players). Using non-pitched percussion throughout, the piece features “groove” sections connected by sections of unison and “composite rhythm,” where parts, when taken as a whole, form a larger rhythmic unit. If the players don’t play where they are supposed to play, there will be gaps in what you hear! Nice on any ensemble program.
